- _p_s_r_o_f_f is a shell script that runs troff(_1) in an environment to produce
- output on a POSTSCRIPT printer. It uses _p_s_d_i_t to convert _t_r_o_f_f
- intermediate output to POSTSCRIPT format, and spools this for printing.
- If no _f_i_l_e_s are specified, the standard input is used.
-
- For those interested in including arbitrary POSTSCRIPT language commands
- or files in a _t_r_o_f_f document, see _p_s_d_i_t(_1).
-
- In addition to the standard _t_r_o_f_f options, the following options are
- understood by _p_s_r_o_f_f.
-
- ----tttt sends the POSTSCRIPT output to the standard output, rather than
- spooling it to a printer. Note that this overrides the meaning of
- the _t_r_o_f_f ----tttt option; if you want that, run _t_r_o_f_f directly.
-
- ----FFFF _f_o_n_t_f_a_m_i_l_y
- use the specified font family for the R/I/B/BI fonts, rather than
- the default family, which is _T_i_m_e_s. Fontfamilies _T_i_m_e_s, _C_o_u_r_i_e_r, and
- _H_e_l_v_e_t_i_c_a are probably defined at your site, and others may be
- available as well. Make sure the printer you will use contains the
- font family you pick! Note that this overrides the meaning of the
- _t_r_o_f_f ----FFFF option; if you want that, run _t_r_o_f_f directly, or use the ----DDDD
- option.
-
- ----DDDD _f_o_n_t_d_i_r_e_c_t_o_r_y
- find font family directories in the specified _f_o_n_t_d_i_r_e_c_t_o_r_y, rather
- than the standard font directory which was configured in the
- installation procedure. Note that it may be necessary to use both
- this option and the ----FFFF option to imitate the ----FFFF option in _t_r_o_f_f.
-
- The following spooler options are passed on to _l_p.
-
- ----dddd_d_e_s_t
- causes the output to be sent to the named destination.
-
- ----nnnn_n causes _n copies of the output to be produced. The default is one.
-
- ----hhhh suppress the printing of the banner page.
-
- ----rrrr don't page-reverse the output.
-
- ----ssss suppress messages from _l_p.

-
- EEEENNNNVVVVIIIIRRRROOOONNNNMMMMEEEENNNNTTTT
- LPDEST
- the name of a printer (as in the ----dddd option) for _l_p to use. If no ----dddd
- option is specified, _l_p will use this printer. If neither ----dddd nor
- LPDEST is set, _p_s_r_o_f_f will spool to a printer class named
- ``PostScript''.
-
- FFFFIIIILLLLEEEESSSS
- /usr/lib/tmac/tmac.* - standard macro files
- /usr/lib/font/devpsc/* - _t_r_o_f_f description files for POSTSCRIPT
- virtual device.
-
- BBBBUUUUGGGGSSSS
- The _e_q_n supplied with _t_r_o_f_f is different than the original. Use the
- options ----rrrr555577776666 ----mmmm2222 for best results. Other programs (e.g., _p_i_c)
- distributed with _t_r_o_f_f have the device names compiled in (so much for
- device independence!). They should just have a ----TTTT option and read the
- device description file for the information they need. Use ----TTTT555577776666 with
- the _p_i_c distributed with DDDDWWWWBBBB....
